Part 141 Course Description
Private License Course leads the 141 enrolled student from zero experience to Private Pilot in 35 hours Flight Training, 35 hours Ground Training.
Instrument Rating Course leads the student who has successfully completed a 141 Private License Course into Instrument Rating eligibility. 40% of the flight training can be accomplished in an approved simulator. A penny saved is a penny earned.
Commercial License Course leads a student who has successfully completed a part 141 Private and Instrument courses to achieving Commercial License status. The student will learn that becoming a professional pilot-in-command involves more than simply acquiring a skill set. The student will learn first hand the business nature of the flying by associating with our company’s daily CFR part 135 Commercial Operation and discover the vital role a commercial pilot fulfills within busy airport commerce. HFA is the ONLY fixed wing flight school on the island joined with a CFR part 135 Commercial Operation. And it is true that our company prefers to hire pilots whom we have trained.

Important Notes
HFA courses are based solely upon compliance with FAA 141 minimums. It is not uncommon for students to need more time. HFA strives to see that each student finish within a budget and success comes from making adjustments. For instance, say a student is having difficulty flying the plane. Instead of allowing that student to waist time and money in the plane repeating mistakes, we offer free simulator time, building confidence, saving money.
The cost of fuel and insurance have been tallied into the hourly rental price of each aircraft. Volatile prices call attention to why our flight simulators are such valuable training tools- they do not burn gas.
Housing
They call it Hawaii’s Big Island, but Kona and Hilo are like villages. We do find housing for students. $500-$1000 per month rent is simple to achieve especially now that it is a buyer’s/renter’s dream here.
Financial Aid Options
Financial options are available through Utah Valley University, and even the FAA http://www.uvsc.edu/students/financial/ VA and Military If you enroll through the HFA affiliation with Utah Valley University you can use your benefits. HFA itself will be fully vested with the VA soon so you can eventually file direct through us. A former student pilot used his Army benefits to pay for his training with HFA and now he flies Airvans for our company.
